Training

Our next set of classes start March 10, 2012.

WHY TRAIN YOUR DOG?

Training your dog will make him or her an enjoyable member of the family and a better neighbor. Training strengthens the bond between the owner and his or her dog. It builds mutual respect, understanding, and communication and subtly demonstrates to your dog that you are the leader of the pack. Dogs are pack animals and need to know where they stand in the pack order to be secure. If you are not in charge, they will try to take charge because someone has to be in charge in their mind. Life is so much easier and safer for them when you are the one in charge.

An untrained dog is likely to misbehave and make life miserable for everyone. There are about four million dogs entering animal shelters a year and about two million of them die because they were not adopted. An untrained dog is more likely to be surrendered and less likely to be adopted than a trained dog.

Level I will be for seven weeks and we will learn basic obedience and manners.  The first class will be without the dog so that we can discuss different problems that students may have with their dogs and ways to handle the problems and how we train dogs. Level II will be for 6 weeks. We will work on the basics that we learned in Level I. For example, we will be working on longer stays with the owners out of sight.

Each session is limited to ten dogs and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Advanced registration is necessary for our training classes.     The first class for Level I will be without the dogs in attendance, so we can cover the training basics without distractions.

We will be offering Obedience Level  I starting on March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am.  The following class will start May 5, 2012 at 11:00 am.

If you do not able to come to classes, we have several other options available for you.  We have are offering Private Training, Day Training and Board and Train.

Private Training involves us working one-on-one with you and your dog.  We will come to your house or you can come here.  There is a milage fee when we come to you.  This is a good option when you have specific problems you would like to work on.

Day Training involves the dog coming to see us twice a week for a month.  You pay for a month at a time and can sign up for as many times as you need.  We can work with Obedience, Aggression, Socialization, Agility, etc.  You will have homework to work on when the dog is not with us.

Board and Train involves the dog staying with us for several weeks while we train it.  You need to give us an hour or so when you pick up so we can go over what and how the dog has learned so you can keep up the behaviors that we have taught it.  Again, we will work with Obedience, Aggression, Socialization, Agility, etc.

Check out the Canine Good Citizen, Agility, Flyball, Clicker Trick and Rally pages - interactive sports between the dog and its owner, fun for all!!

They will need the following vaccinations: Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella (within 6 months) and Canine Influenza.  They also need to be on a flea and tick preventative.  If we find fleas on your pet, we will treat them at your expense.  A fecal is also required.  If the dog is on heartworm preventative, then a negative fecal within a year is accepted.  If the dog is not on heartworm preventative, then we require a negative fecal within 6 months.

Please call 540-439-PAWS (7297) or go to Forms page to get a registration form for your dog.  Mail the form with a check for $110.00 for Obedience and a copy of your dog’s vaccination record.
