Canine Good Citizen Class

The next class will start September 5th, 2012 at 7:00 pm

The American Kennel Club started the Canine Good Citizen program in 1989.   CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs because it is a good start in establishing a strong bond between dog and owner. The Canine Good Citizen Program also lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events.  Many dog owners complete CGC training and testing as a prerequisite to therapy dog certification.  Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life.

Liberty Hill Pet Resort is offering a seven week class geared toward passing the CGC test.  The class will focus on all 10 points of the CGC test and will culminate with an official test on the last day of class.

They will need the following vaccinations: Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella (within 6 months) and Canine Influenza.  They also need to be on a flea and tick preventative.  If we find fleas on your pet, we will treat them at your expense.  A fecal is also required.  If the dog is on heartworm preventative, then a negative fecal within a year is accepted.  If the dog is not on heartworm preventative, then we require a negative fecal within 6 months.

Please call 540-439-PAWS (7297) or go to Forms page to get a registration form for your dog.  Mail the form with a check for $100.00 for the class and a copy of your dog’s vaccination record.   If you would just like to take the test, the cost is $15.00.
